Márton Mészáros – What are you working on this week?

The spring semester starts this week, and unfortunately this is the time of year when the university administration takes over: which courses start, which don’t, whether we’ll have the number of hours, how much overtime we have, uploading course descriptions to useless systems, checking numbers, whether the people who need to take the course have taken it and whether everyone who needs to take it has taken it. FB and e-mail beeps every hour, it is not a quiet time.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am in a constant and terrible backlog, right now with a Petőfi study. I presented it at a conference a couple of years ago: the poem A puszta télen is a compulsory reading, a recitation piece, so I thought it would be just a reception history, to see if something would come out of it, but it turns out that there is hardly any proper analysis of the poem (there are a few, but almost none from recent decades). I fell in love with it completely: sometimes we tend to forget why every village in Hungary has a Petőfi street. Read Petőfi, he is a genius!

We have been constantly working on a KAF (András Ferenc Kovács) edition, not a critical one, but we want the best possible state of the collected edition, under the care of Kalligram and Bookart, and we have been working on that on a daily basis. Let’s see if we can do it!

And the OTDK papers to be judged are trickling in, I’m trying to contribute to those too, so that at least this year I’m not the last one!
