I got a vivid mental picture of the good-ol’-days of filmmaking, back when movies were shot on honest to god film reels, each of which had a tangible monetary value. After the ominous “ACTION!“ was yelled out, every second of the camera whirring equaled money burning up – you could only hope that the shot was usable in the end.
I feel like the producer of some small independent movie since the beginning of September. I am in a temporary unemployment situation (until the beginning of next year). Without steady income, every hour in my days equals to a very specific amount of burnt up money from my emergency funds – and hell, I need to use my time wisely, if I am paying for it out of my own pocket!
I have a million tiny personal projects – some on the shelf, some on ice, some others in the wastepaper basket. Within the framework of the Chris-Unemployment-Months, I am taking the chance to get some of them in order, finish whatever I can. I will be working on the following this next week, weeks, months.
- I discovered, that these past few years every time I sit down to write, my stories tend to turn into some sort of folktale narrative. I feel like I got enough of them to start thinking about putting together a themed collection, which might result in a book. Editing, writing – let’s see if it’ll go anywhere (hit me up if you are a publisher and yearn for some folktale mythology short story collection manuscript!)
- There is a video game we have been working on sporadically for many years with a small team. A hand-drawn action platformer called Pengame. Ever since last year we have been working extra hard to finally finish it, and it seems like we are on track. As such, game development is one of my primary duties nowadays.

- And there is another personal game project, this one of the boardgame variety. I have a prototype of a 2-person boardgame where the players take the role of the legendary Chupacabra, who battles the Devil himself on the Mexican countryside. So far everyone I tried it with enjoyed it enough to ask to play again, which means there is definitely potential in the idea – should be worthwhile to finish it.
